Scalp Scar Treatment by Cause
Scalp scars from burns, cosmetic surgery, accidents, brain surgery and earlier strip transplants, grouped by how they formed, each with real before-and-after photos.

Every scalp scar has its own history.
More people now recover even from major operations such as brain surgery, and scalp scars are also left by cosmetic surgery such as forehead reduction or facial contouring, by burns, and by accidents including traffic accidents.
Below, the scalp scars that Moh Jae-seong’s Scalp Scar Treatment Research Institute treated with FUE hair transplants are grouped by how they formed, each cause with its before-and-after photos. In each photo, the left side is before surgery and the right side after.
Scalp lesions or scars present from birth, such as nevus sebaceus, can also be improved with an FUE hair transplant.

Burn scars
Where the scalp has been burned, the follicles are lost and hair does not grow back. We have treated old burn scars from childhood and wide scars covering the whole crown with FUE hair transplants, and presented this experience at the Korean Burn Society in 2016.

Before and after the first FUE procedure for a patient with an extensive burn scar.
CASE 4 · Extensive burn scar

Cosmetic surgery scars
Scars left by cosmetic operations that cut through the scalp, such as forehead reduction or facial contouring, or scars formed when part of the scalp died after surgery. Scars after forehead implant surgery or a facelift also belong here. Treatment of scalp scars after cosmetic surgery was presented at the PRS International Plastic Surgery Meeting in 2016 and at AESTHETIC PLASTIC SURGERY in 2018.
CASE 1 · Scalp necrosis after facial contouring surgery
Before and after FUE for a patient with a scar caused by scalp necrosis following facial contouring surgery.
CASE 5 · Scar from forehead implant surgery

CASE 6 · Scar from forehead reduction surgery
Before and after FUE that reshaped the hairline to conceal a scalp scar left by forehead reduction surgery.
Accident scars
The scalp was torn in a traffic or other accident, and hair no longer grows where the wound healed.
CASE 2 · Laceration scar
Before and after FUE for a patient with a scar caused by a scalp laceration.
Brain surgery scar
Scars left by neurosurgery that requires opening the scalp, such as brain tumor surgery or brain surgery after an accident.
CASE 7 · Brain surgery scar
Before and after FUE into a scalp scar left by brain surgery following a traffic accident.
Strip transplant scars
A linear scar left at the back of the head after an earlier strip transplant. In some cases necrosis at the incision has widened the scar.
CASE 3 · Necrosis of a strip incision scar from another clinic
Before and after FUE for a patient whose donor incision developed necrosis and scarring after strip hair transplantation at another clinic.
